Frequently Asked Questions

Teacup Puppy Description

  • What is the size of our teacup puppies?

Our teacup puppies are smaller than toy-sized dogs  typically weighing between 3 to 5 pounds when fully grown with a body length and height of 7 to 9 inches. These tiny dogs are often bred from smaller-than-average parents from over 10 generations of selective breeding to ensure their health, quality and size.

  • What is the difference between teacup and micro teacup puppies?

The difference between teacup and micro teacup puppies are their size, temperament and energy levels. In terms of size, a teacup is estimated to be 3 to 5 pounds in adult size while a micro teacup will only grow up to 3 pounds in adult size. Temperament difference is micro teacups are calmer, does not bark just like tiny plush toys. Micro teacups also like to be held and are easier to travel with, can even fit in your purse making them easier to handle. While teacup puppies are more lively and playful. They can play in the dog park and run up the stairs. Choose the size that’s best for you and your lifestyle.

  • Why are teacup puppies expensive and precious?

Each dog mom only gives birth to one living puppy. Their delivery is very delicate, undergoing C-section from expert veterinary doctors and receiving the best aftercare. Due to the mom’s small size it’s common that she won’t be able to produce enough milk. All newborn puppies are then manually bottle fed every two hours to ensure that they receive enough milk and not go into hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Round the clock care and monitoring is given to these puppies until they are 3-5 months old to ensure they are happy and healthy.

  • Why do we sell older puppies?

We only sell puppies 6 months and older to make sure they are stable in health and true to size. Majority of our clients request young adult puppies because they are calmer, size and health are guaranteed. What you see is what you get, there are no surprises.

  • What is Patellar Luxation?

Patellar Luxation is an extremely common knee problem in toy-breed dogs. It happens when the kneecap slips out of the smooth groove in which it normally rides up and down. With the patella dislocated medially, the kee cannot extend properly and styas bent. With luck, the patient will be able to slip the kneecap back where it belongs and be back to normal in only a few steps.

Medial patellar luxations are graded to assess severity, Grade 1 and Grade 2 rarely need  surgery treatment . The kneecap will fall back into its natural position while Grade 3 and Grade 4 may indicate bow-legged appearance which requires vet check and further treatment.

Patella luxation grade 1-2 out of 4 is very normal for small breed dog especially a teacup size puppy. Their knee cap is just too tiny to fit everything all inside. Since we are specialized in teacup and micro teacup puppies, 90% of our puppies have minor patella issue. You don’t need to worry about this it will not affect his health. You can ask our vet or your vet they will explain it to you. For care just to not let him jump up and down too much. Puppy are still growing when they turn adult their bone structure will get stronger and they might be completely out grown it as well.

  • Do baby teeth fall off naturally?

Due to the slow growth of the teeth, puppy teeth don’t fall off naturally. We recommend two ways to remove your puppy's baby teeth,

    1. Remove your puppy's baby teeth manually.

2.During the spay/neuter procedure, ask your vet if they can help the puppy remove the baby teeth.

  • Is an open fontanel a serious health issue?

A large open fontanel can be a concern, with anything over 3.6 cm is considered significant. Although open fontanelles can be common among small breeds like Chihuahuas, malteses, teacup puppyes, etc., treatment is only needed when associated problems like hydrocephalus  and seizure happen.

The presence of an open fontanel requires no treatment, but may necessitate some special handling, for example, be careful of head traumas and external pressing.

  • The vet is saying my dog is much younger , is that possible?

Vets in the USA rarely encounter these types of teacup puppies. Their teeth develop much more slowly than regular puppies, and they often retain baby teeth that need to be removed by the vet during the spay/neuter procedure.
